Johnny Appleseed

Steve McPhail gave a performace from the viewpoint of Johnny (Chapman) Appleseed about the Early American Frontier. He introducd himself and told about his life on the Frontier as a real character from 1800 to the 1840s. He talked about Frontier customs, geography and disproved some of the legends surrounding the character of Johnny Appleseed.

It's a Gas! Nitro Joe's Science Show

July 28th


Our summer reading club grand finale! The cape Girardeau Public Library wants kids to know that science and learning can be a gas! To prove the point, we brought Nitro Joe's Science Show to town. Exploding balloons, color-changing potions, flowing bubbles and creeping fog are all part of the fun at this fast-paced, high-energy show.

July Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Ever wonder what happens when the library lights go out? On June 8th we brought our favorite stuffed animal to the library for a special storytime. After the stories we tucked our stuffed animals in for a library sleepover. What did they get up to while we were gone?

Fairy Houses

Legend has it that if you build a fairy home and leave it in your garden, it will attract a fairy. Even if you don't believe in fairies, this was a fun creative project (and maybe even a way to test the myth...).
